From the Editor
Volume 1, Issue 1
A warm welcome to our charter members. Since this is the first issue of THE OVENBIRD, the newsletter of the Pfeiffer Nature Center, some of you may wonder why this publication would be called "THE OVENBIRD". We thought it quite apt because the Ovenbird sings an emphatic ringing "teacher, teacher, TEACHER" and, as you are aware, teaching is a primary mission of Pfeiffer Nature Center.
Ovenbirds themselves are spring and summer residents at the Nature Center, giving voice to their existence through their song and we hope that our newsletter, THE OVENBIRD, the voice of the Pfeiffer Nature Center, will also become a similarly resounding "Teacher, Teacher, Teacher" for members and for the community large.
In each bimonthly issue, we will announce plans for coming events as well as reporting on the events that have taken place. A regular feature will be called Pfeiffer Nature Notes. These notes will describe the various species of plants and animals occurring on the Nature Center property as well as pertinent features of the property and will eventually become a handbook for identifying and learning about the marvelous plants and animals calling the Nature Center home. We will have a report from the Director and your Editor will provide a learner's perspective in his column A Novice with Binoculars. As with every new venture, we anticipate that there will be things that need to be changed as we proceed. We welcome your feedback as we go through our learning process.
